Why It Matters

Poor Road Infrastructure Costs Kenya Billions Annually

Bad roads hurt business, drive up transport costs, and make travel dangerous. When you hire the wrong engineering consultant, you end up with poor designs, roads that fall apart too soon, and budgets that blow up. Strasan Group fixes these problems at every stage — from planning to final handover.

Substandard Designs

Bad road alignments and weak pavement structures fail within a few years. Then you're paying for expensive repairs instead of building new roads. That's public and private money down the drain.

Environmental & Regulatory Non-Compliance

Skipping proper ESIA paperwork gets you fined, shut down, or dragged through court. Communities get angry. Government stops your project. We've seen it happen too many times.

Inadequate Construction Oversight

No qualified engineer on site means contractors use cheap materials and cut corners. The road might look fine at first, but it won't pass quality tests and won't last.

Our Services

Comprehensive Transportation Engineering Solutions

We handle the whole job from walking your site for the first time to handing over the completed road. Our EBK-registered engineers have worked on Kenyan and East African road projects for decades. You get real experience, not textbook theory.

01

Feasibility Studies & Route Planning

We go deep on site investigations, topographical surveys, geotechnical studies, and cost analysis. You'll know which route works best and whether the project makes financial sense before you spend a shilling on construction.

✓ Included: Traffic counts & origin-destination surveys
02

Detailed Engineering Design & BoQs

We produce full geometric designs, pavement structures, drainage plans, and tender documents with accurate Bills of Quantities. Contractors get exactly what they need to bid and build.

✓ Included: AutoCAD drawings & design reports
03

Construction Supervision & Resident Engineering

We put qualified resident engineers on your site full-time. They check materials, test quality, keep timelines on track, and make sure contractors don't cut corners. Your investment stays protected from day one.

✓ Included: Weekly progress & quality reports
04

Environmental & Social Impact Assessments

Our NEMA-licensed experts prepare full ESIAs that actually get approved. We handle environmental screening, community meetings, impact studies, and mitigation plans. No delays, no surprises.

✓ Included: NEMA licence support
05

Road Inventory & Condition Surveys

We inspect your road network, rate pavement conditions, and collect traffic data. Government agencies and road boards use our reports to plan maintenance and budget wisely.

✓ Included: GIS-enabled condition maps
06

Traffic Impact Assessments & Studies

We count vehicles, survey axle loads, track where people are coming from and going to, and assess how new developments will affect nearby roads. You get the data you need for approvals and planning.

✓ Included: 7-day turning count surveys

FAQ

Common Questions About Our Transportation Engineering Services

Here's what people usually ask us when they're planning road and highway projects in Kenya and East Africa.

Is an Environmental & Social Impact Assessment required for all road projects in Kenya?
+
Yes. Kenya's Environmental Management and Co-ordination Act (EMCA) and NEMA regulations say any road project with significant environmental or social impacts needs an ESIA licence before construction starts. Our NEMA-licensed Lead EIA Expert handles the whole process — scoping, public participation, final NEMA approval — so you stay legal and avoid costly delays.
How long does a feasibility study and engineering design take for a typical access road?
+
For a typical access road under 5 km, expect 8–12 weeks. That covers topographic survey, geotechnical investigation, drainage and pavement design, drawings, BoQs, and tender documents. Tougher terrain or extra regulatory steps can take longer. We give you a clear schedule at the start.
Can Strasan Group handle road projects outside Kenya?
+
Absolutely. We've done transportation engineering work in South Sudan, Somalia, and Ethiopia. We work with bilateral and multilateral partners, national road authorities, and private clients across East and Central Africa.
Do you handle road projects for private residential and commercial developers?
+
Yes — a good chunk of our work is for private estate developers and real estate companies. We've designed and supervised internal roads, access roads, and drainage systems for estates in Kiambu, Nairobi, Nyeri, Meru, and other counties. We also prepare traffic impact assessments for development approvals.
What is included in your construction supervision service?
+
We assign a resident engineer full-time to your site. That engineer does daily inspections, tests materials, approves work, measures completed sections, prepares payment certificates, manages change orders, writes monthly progress reports, and handles project close-out including as-built drawings and defects liability oversight.
